Premi Antoni Vila Casas de Pintura 2025

Submission

I submitted this piece as part of my ongoing series exploring the transatlantic slave trade and its impact on European wealth, particularly the fortunes built by Catalan families. This history—deeply rooted yet rarely acknowledged—forms the foundation of my research and visual work. Through layered surfaces, archival fragments, and symbolic materials, I aim to raise questions about the systems of erasure and the selective memory embedded in our cultural landscape.

My interest in participating in the Premi Antoni Vila Casas de Pintura stems from a desire to exhibit this work in Barcelona, where much of this history remains underexamined. The visibility offered by this award and the foundation’s platform presents an opportunity to engage broader audiences in a dialogue about the past, and about how that past continues to shape our present.
